Joe Torrence has his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Political Science (1969) from the University of Maryland and his Juris Doctorate (1972) from Vanderbilt University School of Law.
Mr. Torrence began his career as the first Executive Director of the Tennessee Housing Development Agency in Nashville, Tennessee from 1973-1975. For the next decade, Mr. Torrence was an investment banker based in New York, first with Bache & Company, then Dillon Read & Company, and finally with Shearson Lehman Hutton where he was the national managing director of the Housing, Mortgage Finance and Asset-Backed Securities Group. After his return in 1988 to Nashville, he joined ARCS Commercial Mortgage Co., L.P. as a principal and Managing Director of the firm’s Affordable Housing Division where he remained until 2001. In 2002, Mr. Torrence became the Senior Vice President and Managing Director of GMAC Commercial Mortgage Corporation – Affordable Housing Division.
In 2007, Mr. Torrence retired from GMAC and founded Highmark Captial Advisors, LLC, a private real estate investment and management company in Nashville, TN.
